Snowflakes amazingly unique in their design when viewed under a microscope but melt quickly in your hand. A butterfly’s wing so delicate and easily broken. Dandelion’s… one wish and a puff of breath and they are gone- away on the breeze somewhere.
It has been a while since I wrote my last blog. I have been through a bit of a bumpy heartache season, but thankfully back again with new energy. This season led me to contemplate about things in our world that are fragile, mainly because our hearts can sometimes feel like this. Periods of grief when we lose a loved one and when relationships fail can cause us to feel weak and broken.
But all of these things actually have enormous life-giving potential and if we look closely, are incredibly beautiful. Take a dragonfly wing for example. It is such a masterpiece in its design, the wing resembles a stained glass window. A dragonfly wing inhibits bacterial growth due to its natural structures. Dragonflies help to control the mosquito population and they inspire engineers to design flying machines.
Butterflies though fragile, pollinate garden plants. Bees pollinate flowers and produce life giving honey. Dandelions grow in barren landscapes, hardy and drought tolerant, live a long life, are fast growing and provide food for insects. A single raindrop might be fragile, but when it joins together with the other droplets, forms a cloud that waters the earth below, it is doing its job as nature intended, bringing life.
So the next time you are feeling fragile or frail, weak or insignificant, remember that you have enormous potential within you. God gives you the grace you need to be fruitful, to live an abundant life with no more brokenness. Nothing is wasted.
