P L A Y : 1. engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose.

A recent camping trip left me feeling completely refreshed and in awe of the beauty in our world. Just before leaving the camping site, I plunged into the water for a quick dip but as I swam through the centre of the river, the stunning moment spoke volumes. I wanted to savour it completely, drink it all in. Looking up, the clear blue sky and leafy trees formed a green archway over the water. Black cockatoos showed off their red tail feathers up ahead. Busy butterflies and flitting fairy wrens adorned the bush. I didn’t want to leave. How many times do we miss what is right in front of us?
Do we notice the beauty? Savour it? Do we take part in it? Do we play?
A wise man once said “When there’s dancing, you’ve gotta join in.”
R. Lyons says “The human soul needs connection more than anything else.” I believe this is so true. If you are feeling lost or alone, reach out. Get up off the couch….travel to a new place, visit an old friend, take up dancing classes. Jump in the river from the rope swing, paddle downstream, swim in the ocean, play. Life is meant to be lived.
