SURRENDER: 1. yield, submit 2. give up, part with
Have you ever experienced a season where you surrendered / let go of nearly everything? Where all that was ‘normal’ in your life suddenly wasn’t anymore? Where you were literally emptied out of all that you thought you had? I have just come through a year of crazy. I had to let go, surrender to the process and trust that there was a greater plan and purpose for what was happening. I liken it to being in a cocoon, just like the caterpillar has to yield to being tucked away inside whilst incredible transformation happens. The caterpillar cannot control the process at all. It is simply yielded and surrendered whilst the changing occurs.
For me it was a series of somewhat difficult events and then a house fire. Moving out in the dark of night relying on the hospitality of trusted friends. The repairs took months, leading me to make the decision to return to my original homeland and family. Parting with my beautiful dog was difficult. Selling and giving away most of my earthly belongings was just another part of the cocoon process. I began to see that this season was actually freeing, to be able to part with so much stuff, to give things away. To let it all go. Saying ‘See you later‘ to the amazing people in my life, who rallied together to support me and offer their help in many different ways, not easy. Hugs at the airport, heartbreaking. Apart, but not forever.
Now to begin again with joyful anticipation that in everything, there is a greater purpose, a reason for it and blossoming and beauty that comes from it.
Romans 8:28 We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
